Actually, I haven't heard that one - probably as when I want to hear "2112" (the other songs being pretty disposable IMO, other than "A Passage To Bangkok, which is much better on the Exit...Stage Left remaster), I generally go for the version on Different Stages (when I want the full version) or All The World's A Stage (when I want things a bit rawer), so I'm not really that inspired to replace that title. Anyway, here's a quick breakdown of what I have, whether I think it's worth it (+/-) : All The World's A Stage (++) - well worth it, sounds so much better. "By Tor And The Snowdog" (esp the 'ambient' part in the middle) - whoah. Hemisphere (+) - worth it, sounds better definitely Permanent Waves (+) - here we start to get into the period of a pretty good sound, so in a sense this one's remix is a bit punchy. However, a lot of instrumental detail (like bass guitar tone, some vocal stuff) is revealed. Listening to this one loud makes you wish it was live though! Moving Pictures (--) - I think the remaster really detracts here - the original is so good and has that really smooth sound. No extra detail, but it is brighter, more generic sounding, and kind of annoying. Opinions differ on this though.... Exit...Stage Left (++) - takes bland non-dynamic version and turns it into one of the best sounding ones. Great - and the missing "Passage To Bangkok" returns Signals (+++)(++) - Holy fucking shit, it's amazing. This goes from one of my favorites but horrid sounding/basically unlistenable in pretty much every format, to totally incredible. Annihilates even the Ultradisc version (by a wide margin actually). Grace Under Pressure (++) - another big improvement Hold Your Fire (+) - kind of a sterile album, the remaster does help punch it up Ones I don't plan on getting/don't feel the need for - Power Windows - already sounds perfect Counterparts - again, I like how this sounds, hard for me to see how it could be much better Desperately in need of remaster - Vapor Trails - godawful digital clipping, sigh Other titles I generally don't listen to enough to consider the remaster version...most good tracks from Test For Echo are on Different Stages for example.... Anyway, these are my opinions - for others, do a search on the Counterparts web board (http://www.rushmessageboard.com/cpmb/index.php?showforum=2). You can also find plenty of discussion on the excellent album (I pair it with MP as their best) Vapor Trails and its horrid mastering there too.... T

Yup - I was glad I did not pop for this CD after hearing of this issue. Speaking of remasters, and Canadians to boot, the Rush remasters are the same way - many are worth it but there are a couple that just ended up sounding like a generic rock album of today instead of how it should sound (Moving Pictures in particular).

Who knew you were such a chatty bunch?
Let's just hope that if they re-master UFOrb they do better than the last one. Dynamics are IMPORTANT dammit.
