You should also check out Tunng (available on bleep.com) a folk/electronic band. They're not ambient, but are really fun to listen to. Ken Erxleben wrote:
Well for me personally pretty much all of the music of FSOL is timeless which kinda makes some of the past postings moot in my book. The Isness??? oi....that's imo one of the best albums of all time!
I'm surely trapped in the 90s....and the 80s, 70s, 60s too! I listen to plenty of new music but didn't mention it here as i was thinking that more orb-like music is what was being discussed. New electronica, i follow all of the simon posford stuff as well as benji and ott on that label. System 7 just put a new album out that's superb. As for non-electronica.... Medeski Martin and Wood is putting out 3 albums in the next year....i really can't say enough about them if you can stand a degree of jazz in your music.
Anyhoo going back to FSOL there's a lot brewing over there! Tons of older stuff is being released and there's also new work on the horizon! As someone mentioned there's peppermint tree and the lost environments 1+2 releases and my understanding is that a full new FSOL album is in the works!
Funny though....now that it's been said, i realize i surely listen to more older music than anything. The last "new album" i purchased was a live Zappa gig released by the family trust lol!! But think about it....how often does a gem really come out? If you are listening to *tons* of new music right now i would guess you are listening to a lot of rubbish (personally speaking - no offense here!) in that mix. I'm selective and in my heart all of the music i own is timeless. So trashing that music aside for the sake of feeling the need to hear new acts doesn't really do it for me. I don't feel "trapped" in any decade. I feel like it's 2008 and we have a good 42 years worth of music to sift through to find what connects with each of us deep inside. We should be so lucky! ;)
