As a collage artist myself I extend an open invitation to anyone to remix anything I've ever recorded. I've had several people I didn't know remix my stuff and I just think it's so cool to hear something based on my tracks that is nothing like what I recorded. I recorded a fairly traditional samba called "Skin Like Honey" (http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/875/875919.html) and it was remixed by a hip hop guy named SouL, my live synth extravaganza "Mania" was twisted up by Highdropod, and an even better example of complete twist up is my singer/songwriter song "Fix of You" (http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/671/671469.html) that was remixed by Mumra (http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/763/763858.html) into a dark trip hop piece. All great fun. Anyway, if you hear any of my stuff* and want to slice and dice it, I'll gladly send you the raw tracks for your mutalating pleasure. The only thing I ask is that you credit me as the artist being remixed. It would be nice if you'd slip me some money if you make any but I'll just take the exposure if you're a cheap bastard. ;) I understand that some artists get their panties in a wad when their albums are sampled but there are also artists that get upset when someone makes a radically different cover of any song they like. I heard some jazz bitch on NPR get totally bent out of shape over a remix that was done of her singing a Jobim song. It was a really cool mix and it was commissioned by the label. She felt the remixer (I can't remember who but it was a big name) had "ruined" the melody line. My problem with that is that no remix changes the existence of the original. It and every other version is still out there to hear. I bet some Hank Williams fans were irate that Red Hot Chili Peppers covered "Real Men Don't Kill Coyotes" (that was back when RHCP were good). Some felt that Devo's version of "Satisfaction" was an abomination. I really shouldn't reply to these e-mails in the morning with my coffee. Jesus. Oh yeah, actually on topic: Does anyone have any collections of samples from classic Orb songs? I don't think I'd actually do a remix of something so old but it would be neat to throw slices into my live sets. Though if I were to get my hands on the sounds from Blue Room... :) Hey, I did it to Papua New Guinea, so.
