I'm sick of old orb.
I'm not, but hey I listened to some Marilyn Monroe last week!
Well, I still listen to it because it's better than most other stuff. Sick was a harsh word. I'm not sure I can adequately find a word to summarize something I've played thousands of times. It's involuntary listening, like hearing your breathing.
That may be true, The Beatles sound dated as well, but Strawberry Fields still is the best tune ever.
Well, what about the orb strawberry fields remix? ;)
I'd like to point out I define the real progression of the orb with Orbvs Terrarvum -- from there the sound became denser and more interesting.
I don't like the term interesting, it is often used as a synonym for 'boring'. For me OT, FFWD and PF sounds 'interesting' indeed. I can understand (and even appreciate) what they were trying to achieve, but it doesn't rock my socks off.
Interesting IS a weak word. Dominating would be better. I want to struggle to absorb everything that's going on. Overload me with intertonal vibrations, use thousands of samples instead of dozens. . . I do feel more recent orb is much more musical, there is more complex melody and progression, songs tell a more varied story.
It would be a shame if the band regressed back to what they were producing 10 years ago. A band that doesn't evolve after a decade may as well not bother producing music.
Yep. What I do now, however, miss in the latest Orb releases is a constant flow (or a general theme). It is as if you're listening to a collection of different bands. But when there is no differentation at all it also plays on my nerve, like the most recent Fehlmann album IMO.
Yeah. With you on this.
