You're correct in that -- I didn't plan on keeping them to myself. They're not recordings of me nor do I own them in any way, and neither do you for that matter. Why keep such recordings to oneself when they could be shared with another Orb fan? You've got an entire list of people here that are huge fans of the orb, but you're saying that these 'special' recordings are your own property. I'm not saying that it's your responsibility to distribute these works just because you happen to have them, nor am I saying that you're required to give them to me just because I ask for them. But I am saying that for you to ask me not to share them with anyone else is just fucking ridiculous -- they're not mine to make that decision and besides, what fun is it to greedily hoard a bunch of rare material when you could share the music experience with others?
From the looks of your list, you've been a member here for quite some time (hell, probably longer than I have), I'm sure that most of what you've got in there certainly wasn't recorded by you -- so why would you, and for so long, not even post that these exist or bother to share them out with the list that has probably been a HUGE resource in helping you to find them in the first place?
Maybe what you've got has been floating around out there for quite some time, but I've never seen them before. If I'm wrong in assuming so -- I offer my most sincere of apologies. I was going to wait until next month when I'll have the ISP to host my own FTP site (I spent a good while collecting and sorting out the same collection that's been floating around various list FTP throughout the years.) I'm upping what I've got to Moondog's FTP for now and will work on putting up anything else I've neglected to share out. -----Original Message----- From: orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:orb-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2003 4:55 PM To: What were the skies like when you were young? Plus some mp3 copies of some mix tapes (here are the covers: http://www.bi11i.com/orb/orbtapes.htm) The guy on Soulseek was VERY insistent that I not share these tape dubs or covers out with anyone and claims to have some close tie to the band or 'share them and so-and-so would get in trouble.' (sure sure, that's what they all say, But I've never seen any of these mixes out there before, either.) When I have some free bandwidth -- I'll get what I have up to Moondog's, or whoevers FTP... I'm curious if anyone out there has any of these others (like the La Luna stuff in Portland, or some of the others that are in Tokyo.) Is anyone out there familiar enough with the circulating live material to know what sets we don't have and need to find? The guy who has all of these mixes is unwilling to share them out but I would love to see if I could find them elsewhere -- he's a member of the list, too -- maybe he'll poke his head out and decide to upload them for everyone to enjoy...? _______________________________________________ Orb mailing list Orb@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/orb _______________________________________________ Orb mailing list Orb@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/orb
