i agree with you but only as it pertains to large labels (or even medium sized indie labels). but from what it seems, the orb is releasing all the new stuff on small (or even new) labels. and i just dont think these labels really have the power to tell LX and company what should go on the album. i could see island doing that...but V2 or Hexus??? demanding a bonus track??? i just find that unlikely. i think its coming mostly from the band and that makes me sad. the least they could do (and maybe they will) is release a single from the album with the tracks everyone will miss if they dont get all 3 albums...otherwise i'm severly tempted to just do the soulseek thing...
V2 is not a small label, and V2-Japan releases just about everything with bonus tracks (or, in the case of Underworld's back catalog, bonus CD3s). That said, the proliferation of different "bonus" tracks is annoying at best...it often means 4 different versions of releases. Japanese, US, UK, and mainland Europe, with the UK and Japanese versions having (different) bonus tracks to encourage domestic consumption, rather than cheaper imports. Blargh. I doubt it is the band, but rather business-driven demands from the labels. Chris np: Mindless Drug Hoover - The Reefer Song
