Nice set up man. It's great to hear that you set it up in a thorough manner. I'm not sure I've heard your recordings. I'd love to check these out.

my recording setup varies by
show/location/authorization, but for the 2001 tour
they were all Sony TCD-D8 DAT recorder>Oade Bros
"stealth" mMics> Sony DG60P dds carriges @ 44.1kHz 16
bit. All were recorded from the floor of the venues in
the audience, all dead center. The distance from the
stage depended on the size/acoustis of the room they
were in that night. Average was about 20-30 feet, but
Toronto was about 50 feet, Denver I was in the
soundboard pit, San Fran was about 70 feet.
the DJ sets varied over the years too- 1999 & 2001
were same as above. 2003 and on were lineout>DAT from
LX's mixer.
2005 Metro (still in the mixing stage) was recorded
from 2 DAT decks, 1 soundboard feed, 1 from the same
setup as 2001 but mics were set on a fixed stand.
2007 Bestival was much like 2005, except the soudboad
recording was lineout>Edirol R-09 SD recorder @
44.1kHz 16 bit. The audience recording from the DAT
has errors throughout, and is practicly unusable.
My Sony TCD-D8 DAT deck has now been retired after 9
years of use. I have switched to the Edirol R-09
recorder. This makes transfers a snap.
For DAT transfers to my computer 1999-2004 I was
using (the same)TCD-D8>spdif I/O 7 pin data
cable>Soundblaster LIVE!>Soundforge 4.5.
>From 2004 on I was using Sony PCM-R500 DAT
Deck>coax>Edirol UA-5>USB>Soundforge XP 7.0. All
digital all the time.
DAT treansfers are all done in real time, so they can
take a long time and space, especially when a 3 hour
set is involved from 2 separate sources.
