Subject: RE: [Orb] wance moor.. OK, I have got to try this green marker thing. I never heard of it. Particularly: will ripped mp3?s be improved with green ink? Orblivion is an absolute classic. It still sounds ahead of its time to me, even now. My only complaint is that 4 minute gap in 72?why? Same complaint with the Oxbow Lakes hidden-track mix on UFOff. I never got that hidden track thing. At least now I can edit out the blank space on mp3s? I think there is less music floating around before the album release now because there is less time between completion and release. Recall the good ol? Island days when the Orb would record an album and have it canned for two years?as in Cydonia. At least now the album gets done and then released. Done ranting. Thanks for listening. And thanks all for all the emails lately! Subject: [Orb] wance moor.. Nice urban legend though. ;-) For Orblivion, didn't Andy have a big influence there? Too bad he left. Talking about the new album.. Does anyone have any insight on what the sound will be like? I mean, will it sound much like the OkiDoki thing? I realy like the Orb but OkiDoki is sooooo far from what the sound -used- to be like. Sorry for my rant.. Where are the old days where the music was floating around months before the release. :-D R _____ From: lhalley@socal.rr.com To: orb@mailman.xmission.com Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2007 21:57:31 -0700 Subject: RE: [Orb] Talkin' bout the green The green markers. I knew that one would somehow come back one day. Have a few (3-4) that I tried it on at the time. Didn't hear any difference. If I recall the final conclusion was it didn't improve the sound in any way. Didn't hurt, but didn't work. Count me in. Loved Orblivion then and love it now! Oh, burn... and I wasn't going to say anything... but now that you mention it, I *am* a little bit jealous :D It's a great album (and a damn nice clock, Gavin). I at least have a t-shirt and poster somewhere... In re the "green marker trick" -- what exactly does this accomplish? Does it cause the laser to do something funky with regard to letting certain frequencies pass or not? What's the "science" behind this claim? -Brian On Jun 1, 2007, at 8:57 PM, Gavin Miller wrote:
And yes, it's my favorite Orb studio album. And (cough cough) I have the clock to validate my statement too. (eat yr heart out Brian) Gavin
Wow, listening closely to Orblivion's "Molten Love" again.. Keeps amazing me.. That's what i loved about the old orb, the polyrythmical thing in there. Any Orblivion fans here?
