for a working example of how a band can dispense music for its fans via the internet without getting screwed themselves one needs look no further than Phish. granted it is for live shows, but as it currently works Phish uploads soundboard copies of their live shows at most two days after the show has been played. then the user has the option to download the show in mp3 (lossy) or shn (loseless) format. given that a phish show is around 2.5-3 hours and i pay around $11 bucks for a shn version, it's a very beneficial situation for all parties involved. they make their money and i have more music than i know what to do with. of course people can share with their friends once they download it to get around the paying thing, but i think the true fans wouldn't do that msot of the time. but maybe i'm too trusting in humans. so it's possible. and it can work. now if only the orb would do a huge tour and release SBDs of all the shows we could be happy. tweez --- John Wintemute <johnw@mgci.com> wrote:
people. Personally I would like the option to download individual tracks and the entire album at a discounted per track rate.
