I totally agree.  They shouldn't make crappy movies that cost a lot money.  I think in the case of the FF they spent a lot of money on a film that they thought would have generate FF a mass appeal, when in fact it only targeted a niche audience.

If you're going to make that argument, then why make ANY movies that cost a
ton of money? Most of the very very high budget hollywood movies have
nominal value beyond being an extremely saleable product, eg: all sequels in
the last 10 years, most action flicks, etc. I mean, how much money was spent
on titanic? We could have given that money to afghanistan :-P Personally I
would rather see movie studios spend way less money on special effects and
whatnot and focus on what makes movies REALLY great: character development
and plot. Fuck "sheer entertainment value" and "A wild ride"-like reviews.
