With many thanks to the other members of this list who have already steered me in the direction of a number of other quality albums/artists, here is my pick;
-System 7 (obvious. Alex collaborates with them occasionally and there is a great archive on groovetech.com with Alex and Steve Hillage. Can't wait to see them at Glastonbury)
Some of my favourite times at glastonbury have been system7 on the same billing as other great acts. I'll never forget seeing them, BancoDeGaia and Eat Static on one night. Or never remember it. Or something. It was good anyway. I think.
-Blue Jam - Series on Radio1 (as in Chris Morris (of Brasseye fame). Most likely on an FTP somewhere. If not and anyone wants to host the first three series in RA format (medium quality sound) then let me know and I'll upload or burn onto a disk. BTW - I only have the first 10 minutes of the banned episode 6, series 1. Does anyone have the rest?)
Try http://www.cookdnbombd.co.uk/ (i think that's spelt right) Most of his radio and TV shows are there for download.
Of course music can be a highly personal thing and some days even some Orb stuff clashes with my mood (but not very often I'm glad to say). I could go on to mention Underworld, Eat Static, Orbital, Leftfield (now sadly no more but two great albums), Ozric Tentacles, any Sasha & Digweed compilation, etc, etc...
All great bands, but not very similar to the Orb IMHO. They do seem to appeal to similar fan bases, but I think that's just a general appreciation of decent music rather than that they're like the Orb. jon -- Please do not use this document as toilet tissue
