There's a proto-spacesurfpunk band called Man or Astroman? that uses a theramin in their shows. If you ever get a chance to see them go. They're loads of fun. Vaguely reminiscent of early Devo mixed with Jan & Dean, Lost in Space, and the Twilight Zone. They thrash around the stage in spacesuits. This American Life (an American radio show) had a fantastic hour on the classifieds in which Jon Langford of the Mekons forms a band for a day from the classified ads and records "Rocketman" by Elton John (and they do a decent job of it). It's a great piece and the show is a fantastic listen. One of the band members from the classifieds is a theramin player. http://www.thislife.org/ search for rocketman the show was on 10/11/02 (which is the eleventh day of October, 2002 for you Europeans and Brits). Just the song: http://www.thislife.org/ftp-root/mp3/rocketman.mp3 This radio show makes me cry on a regular basis and always makes me laugh. I always feel weird driving down the highway choking back tears on a Saturday afternoon. To me This American Life is one of the highest achievements of the art of the radio program. It ranks way up there amongst even our Canadian, British, and Australian brethren. There is still a small ray of hope for this country. Dimmer all the time, I admit. When they shut down the news and start marching us into camps, you people remember the rest of us, ok? ____________________ www.psychicreform.com ____________________ "Be who you are... not what's cool." --Chef.
