Oh, and IÂve just been looking at the NME website, and itÂs just made a bit of a shock revelation to me. While I was waiting to see Plaid, we watched a completely mental DJ, simply billed as Warp DJ. As I recall they were playing the most insanely fast gabba and speed-jungle, and everyone was jumping about in a complete frenzy. Being on Âshrooms, I recall feeling a tad berwildered by the whole thing, but what really stood out to me was one particularly memorable mix, which made me laugh my socks off. Probably the hardest and fastest Gabba tune was briefly abrubted twice by the smooth as sample of MC HammerÂs ÂCanÂt Touch This while electronic voices screeched ÂFuck and ÂCuntÂ. Turns out it was Aphex Twin! The moral of the story is: DonÂt do mushrooms before youÂve found out who the mystery DJ is .
Actually, the mystery DJ was Window Licker :-P (who is, of course, Aphex Twin) Can't remember who the other surprise guest DJs at the Glade were. (To be frank I can't remember much of the past two weeks!) The Glade is definitely my favourite part of Glastonbury. They've got rid of the cheesy house in the Dance Tent by opening the "Crap House Tent" (I think some people referred to it as "Experience" but I'm convinced its official name is the Crap House Tent) and moved a lot of the techno/trance stuff to the Glade, which means the Dance Tent doesn't have to try to cater for every type of dance, as there are now 3 stages to spread it between. This left the Dance Tent with (I thought) a more eclectic mix of original/interesting dance/electronica. Mr Scruff and Full Cycle (Roni Size et al) both did absolutely blinding 3 hours sets in the early afternoon that knocked my socks off (and caused one of my mates to sprain his ankle very badly leaping about on 'shrooms and rolexes :-) Unfortunately at this time of year I get hideously depressed as I sober up and realise there are nearly 12 months until the next Glastonbury. AAAAARGH!!!!! Anyway, I'll stop my rambling, and just say System7 and Loophead were both bloody fantastic. -- "When I think of all the harm the Bible has done, I despair of ever writing anything to equal it." - Oscar Wilde
