I also love allegory and self (I have one of thee 666 vinyl copies).
Yuck. A lousy coumpilation of their lesser stuff, imo. And Spare me the cover art.
I'm big into the Master Musicians of Jajouka as well. I've got this super beautiful version of Brian Jones's original recordings from the 60's. Fucking gorgeous, really, with a velvet case with guilt print in a hand stamped cardboard cover, the booklet is just beautiful with fabulous printing and some translucent overlay pages. Really beautiful.
Yeah, it's a nice package, but it isn't the best of the best of the recordings of the Master Musicians. Gysin recorded them in his restaurant and those tapes ~are~ amazing. The extra disc of remixes included with that special edition are crap, imo.
There is a very uncommon recording called "Jajouka Black Eyes" that is all sort of light and humorous songs played after dinner or after work or at other relaxed times. Really wonderful.
Au contraire: 'Jajouka Black Eyes': awful: avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!! seek
