Subject: [Orb] where were you when
you first heard the orb?
As a longtime Floyd collector (yep,
I'm that old!) I read in Miles' Pink Floyd bible that The Orb sampled a lot of
PF. I happened to be on a yard sale in London, a few months later, and I
found a 12 inch called Little Fluffy Clouds (and also a Polish David
Gilmour tape, but that has nothing to do with this story). I bought it and back
at home I listened to it and was NOT very impressed. The B-side was also rather
awful, IMO (that's what I thought, then)...
Years went by and The Orb made an
appearance at Forest National in Brussels, I went to see time and was not very
amused, although a few tunes haunted my mind for days long (later I would
find out these were Blue Room and Lovin' You).
I went to a record shop, bought me
the double Ultraworld in nice price, listened to it, had a few nookies on it as
well, and I was hooked... especially when I found out that among these floating
geezers were Steve Hillage (ex-Gong and a lot of psychedelic solo recordings in
the seventies) and Guy Pratt.
Bought everything from The Orb and
still do today, but didn't follow LX on all his solo-outings and Badorb
excursions...
