If you're asking about drugs ("get what you want to take with you") then yes. I can get anything I want LOL... Just have to ask the right person. Different people can get me different things.
My question was not so much availability, but if you are searched at door etc (some places make this condition to have raves in first place, such as Seattle under their rave law when I was there, late 90s).
I have to admit, Tim, I was an e-kid at one point. And I did care :) I heard music in a way that I'd never heard it before, and now I appreciate Orb even more. I convinced a few very close friends that the Orb was probably the best electronic music act since <insert band name here>. And they now are devoted fans... Although we're all off the drugs at this point.
Oh sure, definitely, I didn't mean to slam anyone who's done e, a, c, or whatever, or sound like I was doing so - "My attorney has never been able to accept the notion - often espoused by reformed drug abusers and especially popular among those on probation - that you can get a lot higher without drugs than with them. And neither have I, for that matter" - HST. I'm just slamming the hordes of kids that did materialize later, that didn't give a shit about the music, just went to raves to be "different" and get "fucked up" instead of BENT. This more than anything killed raves around many parts of US I think - cuz you can always take them deeper into the woods/barns/underground to escape The Man. Re - Orb - best since... - I think the Orb is in a very rarified league compositionally - up there with Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Zappa. Easily the best electronica and really some of the best music of this century, or any. Other people/bands that I like, such as various psy trance, Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Rush, Yes, etc - are really quite pedestrian in comparison, even if awesome in their own right. That's not to say they're terribly inferior - just that the Orb is on their own level. T
There are still raves but they are VERY hard to come by.

Now I'm envious that you got to see the legendary early-90s gigs - I hadn't guite gotten into electronic music in '92! At least I caught the tail end of raving (in the US) before it really started getting shut down. Which brings me to question for listers in general - where are you in the world and are raves still going on? Can you get what you want to take with you in? Good music/vibe or brainless music for e-kids that don't care? Like I say, in many parts of US (Phoenix being most recent big city I was in, where things really went down the toilet), the rave scene has just died.
