I actually still prefer Cydonia more (and, probably shocking to some, I consider Orblivion and 2&3 to be about equal really)(except for the last 2 non-bonus tracks, i.e. ending with Passing of Time - THAT is stand-above brilliant stuff on par with any of the best of their stuff).

Why do we love Orblivion?

I think it stands up very well over time.

Maybe it didn’t bring in any new fans in 1997, but the old fans loved it. I have read sales were disappointing. I think it was overshadowed by Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Moby, and Aphex Twin as electronic music finally stormed and conquered America.

Now ten years on (if you can believe it!) I would argue that Orblivion is last great Orb album—it stands even with the others as a classic, helping to define the Orb sound, with Ultraworld, UFOrb, and Orbvs. (an Orb has four corners..?...)

Plus the sound really is amazing—green ink or not—it is pristine, clear and subtle.

It gets better every time you listen to it.

It's interesting to see how many people on this list like Orblivion so much now. I have always loved this album but I remember back in the pre Cydonia days I was definitely in the minority. Nice to see so many others enjoying it too!
