MAN, Cydonia and B&T have certainly come in for quite a drubbing on this poll. A couple observations, all IMO and not intending to actually call anyone an Idiot: 1) B&T I can sort of see. While there is some superior stuff on there (and I argue this is still the Orb and still superior to most electronica - the only thing that is sort of close to Orb magic in whatever form is Meat Beat IMO), it does disappoint in that it's very tracky, songs don't flow into one another, etc. Of course, this criticism falls apart when it is observed that many classic Orb albums don't do that either - it's just the master ones like Terrarvm and Cydonia that do. My main gripe is a couple of tracks are very non-Orby (deep house one for example), but I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'd rather have them screw around and try different things than put LFC on an album 12 times and release that. Rush didn't stop at Tom Sawyer/Moving Pictures, for crying out loud. 2) Cydonia - you people are out of your minds. That album has more good shit on it, and flows together, and is just freaking awesome. SIGH. Yeah, everyone is entitled to opinions and so forth, but come on! While the evidence is before me and can't be denied that many are disappointed with this one, I think it's practically as good as Terrarvm, has a lot of really cool shit that rocks coupled with some classic Orb dub/ambient excursions, and is an immenently satisfying listen. 3) UFOrb is not all that good, IMO. It has some true classics and some of Orb's most dance-floor disposable stuff. There, I said it and I'm glad. I love the album but I certainly don't think it's better than Cydonia, or even Orblivion. 4) I'm actually surprised by how many have come to like Terrarvm. When I saw that tour, everyone was like ??!! about the new stuff, hated the new album, couldn't understand it, wanted UW/UFO stuff. I saw LX dj, opening for MBM on the Sub Sand tour (i.e, after the Orb's T tour), got my cd signed - I took the sheet that fits behind the clear cd tray, which he was a bit puzzled by at first till he realized what it was and that sig would be both on display and protected - I explained that I wanted that one signed and not UW/LFC or whatever because I thought it was the finest thing they'd done by far, that the live show had rocked, etc. He seemed very pleased that someone Got It; it was obvious that not many people had at that point. Sooo, hopefully the good Dr. is aware that opinion has come around, finally.... T

Hard to put down concretely but, Favs 1) UFOrb 2) Orbvs Terrarum 3) Live93 4) Orblivion 5) Pomme Fritz Least played but still fun 1) ABTU 2) Cydonia 3) Bitches & Trainingwheels OFF TOPIC: Has anybody ever had an experience such as hallucinating on mushrooms at an outdoor rave/festival and coming to the conclusion that the music the dj was playing was actually a form of contact signal to outerspace and that some form of light beams (visible and multicolored) were being sent back to the location of the party from a star in the sky? My friend and I have each experienced something similar on seperate occasions a few years and several hundred kilometers apart without knowledge of the other's experience until years after the fact. All of it was taking as blasphemy at the time but now seems quite odd that it was common to both of us. The events were isolated and have not occurred with other shroom consumptions Just wondering, if not please disregard. BS remarks or critiquing not required. Here's what's been in and out of my CD player lately. * Grand Theft Bus - Birth of Confusion -- jam band music, without sounding like a jam band necessarily, has some nice catchy tunes you'll find yourself humming... * Bill Laswell - Version 2 Version -- not bad! * Led Zeppelin - II * Russell Mills/Undark - Pearl + Umbra -- if you liked em:t 3396, you might like this too, although the structure of the songs is a little more tight. * James Johnson & Stephen Philips - Lost at Dunn's Lake -- great for snoozing off too. * I've been listening to FAX mp3s a lot lately - sooo... Dark Side of the Moog series and Dreamfish series Favorite Orb CDs: 1. UFOrb 2. Live 93 3. Orbus Terrarum Least Favorite Orb CDs: 1. Bicycles and Tricycles (well, has some interesting songs, but overall - *puke*) 2. Cydonia (nice try, but *puke*) 3. hmm... dunno, I guess Orblivion, but only because I don't play it that much - I actually like it...I mean, tracks like S.A.L.T. are awesome, true Orb goodness. And the "Youth of America on LSD" sample rocks...

Top 3: UFOrb (almost unanimous? - has all the best sides of the Orb -- Towers of Dub alone is a masterpiece) Orbus Terrarum - ambitious and it works! Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Orb remix project vol. 1 - the first edition, although it was in mono(dumb f**ks!), plus the reshuffling and missing tracks ruined the second edition - and i'll never forgive the god-awful David Stewart Lily was here track. ICK. I was like,... wow, y'know? : ) A friend of mine was tripping (like for the third day straight) in the desert outside of Austin and was totally convinced a spaceship came down and hovered over them while they were beating on logs or something. Once I saw neon women dancing to the killer tune playing in my head during Mardi Gras. They may have come from outer space. Hell, I hadn't slept for three days and had eaten... oh man, it must have been ten very strong doses of acid during that three days. At that point tripping had become second nature so extraterrestrial contact was to be expected. Mushrooms make me feel fuzzy. I've said too much. p.s. Favorites: 1. Adventures American single cd release. I don't care if the longer versions are better, I wasn't listening to the 2cd version while laying in a wading pool on a Saturday afternoon while tripping balls on several hits of super clean acid. 2. Uforb 2cd set, especially the Blue Room mix... for similar reasons as above. 3. Orblivion just because it was the one that said, "Pick me!" when I looked at the cd shelf... What was in that weed? Antifavorites: 1. UFOff. Nothing like a big "fuck you" from a band to its American fans. The show in support was kind of like they pushed "play" on the cd and rented the dancing baby cgi. 2. Bicycles & Tricyclates. So it's got some nice moments. So does a cd of Acid loops. Never should have been released as an Orb album. It doesn't even vaguely approach the definition of "Orb album." 3. Orblivion just because it's freaking me out man! SHUT UP! Stupid talking cds...
