My impressions on Orb Remasters

Ok, so I have listened to all bonus discs, and here is my little summary: Pomme Fritz 1. Sausage Tats Mit Gravy (dom mix #1) Quite nice remix done by Dom O'Mick. Very dubby and interesting. 2. Star Twister (pomme fritz & apple sauce mix) This mix was previously available on limited 2xCD 'U.F.Off' compilation, but labeled '(orb remix & back passage '94)'. Very interesting, and totally different than original. 3. Potato Fields of Electric Gliding Blue (ambient mix) This really sounds like extended version of 'Alles Ist Schoen'. 4. Eastern Hot Dogs in Gardens of Dub (lx mix) 5. Wrapped with Salt & Vinegar (thomas fehlmann mix) These two mixes sound very similar - is it only my impression? I find them quite boring. Orbus Terrarum 1. Plateau (all hands on deck mix - 2am) Not so interesting mix of 'Plateau' - too long. Very similar to version from 'Live'93' and 'Plateau (of normality)' - song that was available on 'The Serious Road Trip' 1995 compilation. Same bass line. 2. Slug Dub (dumpy dub) It is strange for me why the quality of this so song is so poor. Maybe it's live recording with crowd noise dubbed out? The mix is also not so good. 3. Valley (mix 3 dubby) This is nice, but not impressing. 4. White River Junction (zoom vinegar mix) This is I like the most on Orbus Terrarum bonus disc. Really good. 5. Oxbow Lakes (andy's space mix) Same version as on 'Orbscure Trax'. 6. Peace Pudding (occidental) This is extended version of 'Cocksville USA' from 'Axiom Dub' 1997 compilation. I think that it is new song, not remix of Occidental since it doesn't share any sounds from the song. I never liked it. Orblivion This bonus disc is the best to me. 1. Delta Mk II (love bites mix) Very nice, dreamy and ambient mix of 'Delta Mk II'. I especially love that nice sound of guitar... 2. Bedouin (the sheiks film mix) This is the most shocking mix. It shares the title with the mix from 'Orbscure Trax' but it's totally different. It's fast, dubby, and that piano 'thing' is really intriguing. I like it, despite the fact it's totally non-Orbish. 3. Log of Deadwood (implanting machines mix) Don't know why it's called a mix - it sounds identical to me as album version. 4. Secrets (i love a woman in uniform mix) Interesting and colourful mix. 5. Passing of Time (ambient mix) Quite similar to '(film mix)' found on 'Herb Garden Presents - Mini Orblivion - Home Killing Is Taping Music' compilation but much better. 6. Molten Love (orbits of venus mix) Extended version of 'Molten Love (berlin session film mix)' - much much better, I love non-ambient part! 7. S.A.L.T. (snow mix) It's just S.A.L.T. without David Thewlis monologue and same additional sounds. 8. Toxygene (kris needs up for a fortnight mix) 9. Asylum (soul catcher's mix) Two mixes from singles. Too bad Alex haven't placed some other versions of these songs (i.e. (ganja kru remix)). Cydonia The most disappointing disc. Only 2 interesting tracks. 1. Centuries (eurofen mix) Exactly the same version as 'Orbsessions vol.1' one. 2. Ghostdancing (version) 3. Hamlet of Kings (version) 4. Firestar (front bits) 3 useless tracks. Ghostdancing doesn't have vocals and ends suddenly. Hamlet of Kings - I don't see any differences. Firestar - boring as original. 5. Centuries (wine, woman & king mix) First interesting track. Very slow and dubby. 6. Once More (scourge of the earth mix) Nice mix, known from 'Once More' promo 12". 7. Plum Island (flat mix) 8. Promis (version) Still can't see the differences to the original tracks. 9. Once More (bedrock edit 2) Mix from the single 10. Turn It Down (long version) Look points 7 & 8. 11. Terminus (andy's mix) 2nd interesting track. It's a little faster than original with additional beat and sounds. -- muzyka. kultura. markolf ::::: http://www.markolf.org

According to the ztt website, a ztt box of 3 cds and 1 dvd will be released on September. It will include many ztt singles from fgth, propaganda, etc... and will include remixes by The Orb, William Orbit and Brian Eno. Probably the Sun Electric : Red Summer on cd ? Or something else... JC
