Hey Everyone - The LX gig in SF was a really good time... I saw several listees there (Hi Tim! Hi Andy!) and other Orb fanatics I've come to know through the years. He came on right around midnight, and spent 2 hours teasing a lot of Orb classics mixed with newer material. Its all a bit of a wash in my mind right now, but the Freebird-dubstyle track was in there, along with some very very old mixes from the Trippin On Sunshine era. At 2am they pulled the plug, despite him looking like he'd like to continue. (Damn laws). It did end with the entire place singing him Happy Birthday, which was a nice closer for the night. So, not exactly an Orb gig in the classic sense, but definitely the best dj gig I've heard in a while, and it will tide me over til a proper show comes around again. =) rach

Smartbar set was awe-some!

5 am right now, just got back home This was the 5th time I saw LX headline as a DJ, and was BY FAR the BEST set I've ever heard him spin! OMFG did I ever dance my ass off- 2 1/2 hours non-stop. All of those listees within easy travelling distance from the San Fran gig it's totally worth going. First off, LX is only doing these 2 dates this time around. He's rendez vous-ing with Meat Beat Manifesto out there too, but didn't specify if it was purely social or anything more. He also told m there's a new project in the works, the name escapes me now, but it begind with "Root" and is a collaboration with Nina Walsh of Sabre X. He also is about to become a dad for the 2nd time, this time to a son. As for the music.... LX showed me the discs prior to starting his set. over a dozen of unreleased sessions/remixes and mash ups, along with the forthcoming Orb album which is yet untitled, but does have cover art. He opened his set with an unreleased mix of Oxbow Lakes, played SEVERAL unreleased mixes off of UF Orb and Orbvs Terrarvm, the finished Freebird, some new Orb tracks and Transit Kings stuff... unFriggin' believable. all night I was grinning from ear to ear, and couldn't stop moving. The Music For Listeners Orb show is this weekend....tune in live this Saturday morning!

M-T Here ..wanted to tell everyone that I'm fucking stoked about the Orb show this weekend on Music For Listeners. I've edited the interview, sent off copies of the live recording to Orb HQ, and all is ready. The live set is going to be played as it happened on March 21st, 2006 - Red 7 in Austin, TX. I am playing selected pieces from Alex's DJ set, but the Orb set will be played as is, unedited. There maybe a voice over here or there, (station ID's, etc.), but what do you want for free? The Orb set runs just under 93 minutes!!! This is all early morning for you in the European zones. The show airs live 5 AM - 10 AM GMT on Saturday. If you happen to live in "A Merry Car", then it is on live at 1 AM - 6 AM Eastern Daylight Time. For you lucky people in Australia.....it's on 3 PM - 8 PM, Saturday evening by Sydney's watch!!! The show is currently broadcast on Central Daylight Time, so it broadcasts out of San Antonio, TX from Midnight - 5 AM CDT. Go to www.musicforlisteners.com to follow the link to the krtu.org webcast and listen in live. Just to let you know, I think Thomas and LX were not that pleased with some of their sounds cutting out during the set. They mentioned the sound problems after the show, but the sound cuts out only two or three times during the set for a split second. It just adds to the "live experience". These problems were in real time. I tried to edit the spaces, but it sounded even worse as it sounded like a skip instead of a break. So...the live set is as it was played and heard. Most likely the live set will air after the interview...I plan on starting the interview rather early in the broadcast. Five hours is certainly not enough for this bands wonderful catalog, but I do hope to play my absolute favorites during the show. If you want to make a suggestion or if there is something you think I just have to play, just send me a e-mail to info(a)musicforlisteners.com . I don't think any of "Okie Dokey" will be played as they play almost every track from it during the live set. I do hope all you Orbheads get to listen. Certainly if "head" phones if you got 'em.
