Hello Orb-Lovin Folks! How about some music-oriented news? I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at the new Prayerbox cd... it is currently being edited for release, and looks to be very promising if you like dub! I was sworn to secrecy, else I'd give you all a listen, but with recent events being as such, I thought you'd all like something to look forward to! (Sorry, no clue about the release date, either.) It is a full-length album, with some nice, solid dub tracks on there - very bassy, mellow, happy stuff. There are also some harder, beatier tunes, and several incorporate MC over the rhythms. The government says that drug users directly support terrorist organizations, and drug users support raves, therefore it is obvious that raves are directly linked to terrorism! ...and "that there will only be peace if the whole world worships the same religion - the church for the holy love of money"........ is it a bad time to talk about a regime change? Here comes the old drug and terrorism debate again. And yet another story about glow sticks and massage oil. Fine, drugs support terrorism, lets say. And ravers, I think we can all say, do drugs, LOTS and LOTS of drugs. I did my time in the trenches, and I can tell you, if there was somebody clean, s/he was an undercover, a "security guard," or flat broke. Why do you think everybody asks you if you have a dollar? And let's not be too hasty with our lingo there, bub. Drugs ARE illegal. It's something every Baby-Oil packing, glowstick-wielding GABBA girl knows. Why do you think they do it anyway? Because it's bad, wrong, and it makes you feel good - sometimes REAL REAL good, but always wrong in the eyes of the law. I'm thankful sometimes that I was never caught having to explain to the nice policeman just what the fuck it was I thought I was doing. This isn't your "I once was blind but now I see" schlock: I knew the risk, I took it, and I danced the night away. But I knew what I was doing before taking those purple pills (rarely during - hee hee), and I never got caught. I broke the law, and I WON!!! Call it luck or whatever you want, but I wouldn't expect a boatload of sympathy from me if you've been busted, just as I wouldn't have expected it had it been me. Drug laws come and drug laws go, and whether or not THEY like it, it's ultimately between you and your little synapses. Do what your Daddy did way back when everybody dropped sugar cubes - hide in plain sight. Where? At a rave! Safety in numbers - woo-hoo! Say I like to do coke now and then. I don't - YUCK! - but just say I do. I'm supporting drug cartels in Colombia, right? Or I could say that I'm supporting the poor people actually out there plucking the leaves, people that live without the lovely economic infrastructure and social services that we have. Granted, the cartels take most of it off the top, but anyone working for six bucks an hour at the local Walmart will tell you that THAT concept ain't new. In summation, you're ALL correct. Drugs should be legalized AND obliterated. Civil liberties should be protected AND restrained. Pat yourselves on the back everyone! You have what's called a "black box," a problem with no solution. Do you think Johnny-Raver really cares about it as he's liquid-ing away, pierced and clammy, convinced he sees a four-lane highway on the ceiling? I doubt it. Same too goes for Xochiquetzal the leaf plucker, just trying to get by. Well, the sweet thing is that Bush can be voted out of office, and I doubt he'll make it the 2004 election. People seem to forget the option wasn't there for the Iraqi people. There was no free speech. Saddam simply killed anyone who politically opposed him. Bush was actually decent governor, but he becoming president was like promoting a middle management idiot to CEO. He's obviously not cut out for the job. I'll be glad to see him go, but I'm even happier to see that he takes Saddam out with him. The company who put together those "drug use supports terrorism" advertisements admitted that it was merely an exaggeration to serve their own purposes. On a similar note, During the 80's and 90's the Partnership For A Drug Free America admitted to the same thing. They were so convinced that all illegal drugs were deadly that the saw no harm changing facts and figures to prove their point. That's propaganda that Hitler would be proud of. Imagine the lies they could conjure up because they "knew" one race was inferior to another. One of the two provisions would target raves -- a social event that mixes electronic music, light shows and dancing; the other provision would seek to limit the discretion of federal judges. In fact, both provisions seek to intimidate through legislative fiat. The measure that targets raves would allow prosecutors to argue that common rave items like glow sticks and massage oils are drug paraphernalia and would impose huge fines and even prison time on owners of venues into which customers bring controlled substances. No matter how much security is put in place, owners could be held responsible for the actions of just one customer and would therefore be much less likely to allow raves to take place in their clubs or concert halls. The other dangerous provision would require the Justice Department to report to Congress every time federal judges uses their discretion to impose a lower sentence than recommended under federal sentencing guidelines. This measure represents the latest effort by some in Congress to politicize the criminal justice system by removing the already limited ability that judges have to take into account unusual circumstances that could argue for leniency against some people convicted of federal offenses.
