Re: M_Boats: AOL is almost over
Can you give a little more detail on the problems with aol? I'm not having problems...maybe it's the sites I surf? Bill P.
Hi Bill, These are some problems I've encountered. When I was trying to solve them, it was explained there are limitations to most service providers. I'm not picking on AOL... there are others that may cause the same frustrations. One such frustration came with Email Forums, MSOG and Trailer Sailor's: After being fine for months, AOL and, I think Yahoo and maybe Hotmail would not allow the forums to recognize "some" of the participants and the forum, being program based would think the site (your address) was not there any longer and drop you. I got a message from TSBB that said "You have been cancelled" (I thought I had done something wrong). Photo shareing. I do not know how to explain this problem except to say there are four or five people on the list that have sent me photos for the Photo Site, that could not be opened by AOL. However, when I added Gmail (months ago) and had the same people send the same photos to the new address, it works. I understand AOL has a limit to the file size that can be sent. Because I get sometimes 10 to 15 large photos in a batch, AOL will block the file or reduce the size of the photos to half of their sent size. I had thought this was a problem with the sender, but now I am to understand it is an AOL thing (other SP's do that too). Some concerns are specifics, but there been other problems. Inability to access sites, settings changed and Emails that never showed. However I understand the other occasional problems have been regional problems with servers and equipment. On the plus side, with an SP like AOL, you get lots of added protection. And, if I were not using the Internet like I do, I think I'd be fine to stay with them. Bill www.MSOGPhotoSite.com
