Do these boats typically not have steps Tom? I have some sort of owner made steps that are actually pretty cool, just the seal is questionable. I just assumed the original boat had the steps replaced? I' ll get a pic in a few minutes...heading out to wire up meter. Jazz On Feb 21, 2016 2:27 PM, "Thomas Buzzi" <thomaspbuzzi@gmail.com> wrote:

Oh, on the outside you mean! Couldn't figure out what you meant. Never seen anything like that on the few M17s I've seen in person. Is there any function to the space inside - storage or anything? Curious why anyone would put that there otherwise. I thought you meant a step on the inside, which I've seen before...the Ensenada 20 for example has a removable step-down step inside (and a nifty flip-up table hinged on the inside of the companionway - would unfortunately be in the way of the CB winch on an M17). cheers, John S. No, it just sorta takes up space under there...but it's 3 hinged pieces closing the companionway which is pretty cool, it just folds down into a little pile on the top step, or open like the pic. Makes a decent little cocktail table. Meh? Jazz On Feb 21, 2016 3:31 PM, "John Schinnerer" <john@eco-living.net> wrote:

OK, now I get how it folds...there's an inside hinge on 1st & 2nd companionway boards. Clever twist... Looks like the trade-off is that you can have three, two (bottom two), or no boards in place, but not just the bottom one because it has to fold down for #2 to fold down. cheers, John S. That's what I had in mind, John, inside the cabin. I am going to think up something. My old Flicka had about 5 LF of counter when I bought it and ended up with about 12 FL once I got through building in collapseable counters, shelves , tables, etc. Haven't peeked into an Ensenada yet. By the way, how is the trailer research coming along? I can post some pics of how the Ensenada 20 step and table works but will be a couple weeks. Trailer research...moving, but slowly...need to call your guy Bob at Coastline when I get time. The issue will be getting it from TX to OR. Talked to Pacific in SoCal and they quoted me a price almost a grand more than yours, for galvanized instead of aluminum. Inquired with EZ Loader, also much closer (Spokane, WA) and they said they haven't done sailboat trailers for years and didn't know where to point me. What else is there? EZ Loader and Pacific seem to be the two biggies out west. You said Coastline was a third biggie. Loadmaster - in Ohio... Triad, Road King - North Carolina... Custom Sailboat Trailers - also in TX... Trail-Rite is in Santa Ana, same vicinity as Pacific. I know a blacksmith here who might know some fabricators locally to hack on what I have. To be continued... cheers, John S. John, Coastline ships trailer loads of their trailers all over the US so once they make your custom rig they can probably ship it on a load of their trailers going in your direction. Worst case have it shipped by a freight line but that would probably make it less cost effective for you. When you call down here you can ask them to help you get the trailer you would buy from them. They are very cooperative with their customers. Good luck, Tom This email has been sent from a virus-free computer protected by Avast. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email> <#DDB4FAA8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> On Mon, Feb 22, 2016 at 1:13 AM, John Schinnerer <john@eco-living.net> wrote:

Let us know if you find out anything about Road King. I've had my eye on their RKGSK 16-18, which looks like it would be perfect for an M17. Hi John, Since you mentioned trailers again, I called Coastline down here and they see no problem in duplicating the trailer they built for me in the manufacture of one for you. Unfortunately they have no customers in your neck of the woods so it comes down to you hiring a shipper to pick up the trailer for you, or you could take a pleasant trip down here to pick it up yourself and enjoy some southern warm winter. Thanks for the pics, Jazz. No two of these boats are alike once the owners have them. What a neat idea for double use of something. Especially on a small boat like these. I was thinking more along the lines of a circular step inside the cabin that would be removeable to use the cb winch, of course, but could then be left in place to use as a step or some precious horizontal area for pots, pans, monopoly boards, etc. There is so much cubic footage of air beneath the cockpit sole that it must be good for something! Perhaps a couple of roll out drawers. Yeah, a milk crate as long as you can latch it to the floor. You gotta plan for everything to be rocking and rolling, moving and jolting when you are using anything on the boat. I need something right where you're talking about because it's a long drop once I step through the companionway...there's nothing. Even a milk crate would be better!

Fun, Tom B

Do these boats typically not have steps Tom? I have some sort of owner made steps that are actually pretty cool, just the seal is questionable. I just assumed the original boat had the steps replaced? I' ll get a pic in a few minutes...heading out to wire up meter.

Sounds interesting. A step that can double as a table after the hatch boards are in.
