You'll love that 23 Gerry. I'm the steward of the closest M-sibling to Dhana, M23 #74 Faith. We spend some time every summer in Washington waters. Perhaps we'll cross tacks some day. Thanks Mark! We safely completed the 1500 mile journey yesterday. Certainly some added stress with a giant boat behind you....a 200-300 mile journey is reasonable for a boat like the M23, but I certainly don't want to travel long distances again. I am thankful I have a lot of great cruising destinations in that range living in central Washington. Now the real learning begins....I have a feeling the first couple years of ownership will be slow, but anything good takes time. We did order a full length cover for the boat from Ship Shape Canvas in Duluth. I'll let you know how that works out and cost. I never met Dick Lane, but he certainly did some good work on the boat. Bones provided a whole lot of records with the boat, maybe I'll find a picture in there. Gerry

The full cover is a great idea - I refinished the brightwork on my M17 with 8 coats of Epifanes high-gloss in 2008, bought a cover from Sailors Tailor, and it's still mostly looking like new except for a few spots that get some wear. Hi Gerry a cover is great. I had one made for my M-23 and love it. It does protect bright work and keeps the rain out but also allows me to take off pieces of wood and varnish at home instead of at the marina. My canvas gal made zipper entrances on port and starboard so it does not matter where the dock is when entering. There is a picture of it on the MSOG photo site http://www.msogphotosite.com/Scripts/Boats/boatsdetail.php?id=113. Have a blast with your M-23. I am going to miss mine! Hey, cool! I am in fact going down to Whiskeytown latter part of next week with a sailing/kayaking pal of mine. It's a bit under 3 hrs drive from here. But with my kayak this trip, as Pajarita still has some pre-season fixing to be finished off. Hope it's all done by late May, so will keep this in mind. I do want to get Pajarita in the water there sometime later this season. thanks, John S. On 04/26/2017 02:15 PM, jerry@jerrymontgomery.org wrote:
John- Consider the Whiskeytown Lake race on May 27-28, in the Coast Range just outside of Redding. I'll be there in a Sage 17, and an old friend and former M-17 sailor from Florence will be sailing with me. They have a Portsmouth class for boats about Cat 22 size and down.

Cool idea... I am in southern Oregon but have connections around the NW, lived in Seattle for seven years quite a while ago. I'd join in, if the timing/my schedule allowed.
cheers, John S. (M17 #38, "Pajarita")

Hi All,
I hope I can maintain Dhana as well as Bones did. I have a lot of great support via the email list and appreciate that I can reach out to everyone with questions.
I'll post some pictures soon about our journey across the country....
