Any of you skipper added cockpit drains? What is the best way? The stern or thru haul? Merry Christmas Capt Jim Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef>
The 15 already has a drain up by the bridge deck, I believe. ONe drain in the cockpit sole is ok. If you want to add another lead it aft through the stern and above the waterline. The stock drain will handle "normal" water. The abnormal down pour or a following sea broach will need a much larger drain and at that point the drain led aft through the transom above the waterline will serve well immediately ( 1.5-2" diameter) to drain the cockpit until the sole drain can complete the drainage. I added two 1.5 inch drains to my M17 and ran them 5" above the cockpit sole and straight out through the transom. Capping off the ends in the transom with flapper valves makes them one way until needed by a full cockpit. Merry Christmas Dave Thinking about Santa Barbara Island , Catalina, and maybe Santa Cruz..From Oceanside. From my previous sailing of Channel Islands 40 years ago I encountered some rough waters in my Islander 32. This maybe a mid-life crisis but I am way past mid life , My common sense seem to be adrift.
