Nice find! I admit to being a little bit jealous. I will let someone more knowledgeable weigh in on your question. Monty15Mike On Sun, Oct 25, 2020, 6:54 PM bill.bowen--- via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:
Because I was struck with the lines of the boat when driving by, I bought an M12 out of guy's front yard in North Florida about four years ago. I have sailed it a few time and it is a delight. Because I owned a Hunter 41 Deck Salon which I sold recently, I had little time for the M12. It is stored at my farm in South Georgia. While starting to clean her up (waxing hull, freshen teak, etc.) I noticed on the brass hull plate the following:
"Montgomery Marine" in faded letters
"Type" in faded letters followed by a hammer stamped "12"
"No." in faded letters followed by a hammer stamped "1"
Does this mean this is Hull Number 1 of the M12's?
Attached is a photo of the hull plate (upside down because the boat is upside on stands being waxed) and a photo of the boat on my farm pond about a year after I bought it.
Thanks, Bill Bowen
Yes, it should be the first. Sailmaker Reggie Armstrong and I won our class in the midwinters in Long Beach, CA with it, fresh out of the mold. I wonder how it got to FL?? if you weren't so far away I would love to see it. Take care of it! jerry ________________________________ From: montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com> on behalf of Mike Z <speedernut2@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, October 25, 2020 4:14 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: M12 Hull Plate Nice find! Thanx, Good to know, particularly in view of my location is only about 100 miles away on Hwy 101, and I get to Port Townsend from time to time. Also sort of explains why every issue of SCA has a Duckworth ad. Yeah I have bought quite a bit of small boat hardware, line, other stuff from Duckworks, for my M17 and El Toro. Great folks, good prices and personal service. Orders ship promptly. And they carry small boat stuff that is not so easy to find from "big" boat vendors, often at better prices even if you can find it elsewhere. Two thumbs up for Duckworks... :-) cheers, John On 10/25/20 5:36 PM, Daniel Rich wrote:

Thank You Mike Z - I just received a kind email from Jerry Montgomery confirming, yes this should be Hull No. 1. He said he and Reggie Armstrong won their class in the Long Beach midwinters with it fresh out of the mold. Who knew? May I ask what type of M Boat do you have Mike? it's possible it was converted to a cat rig; many were. Does the mast step show any evidence of having been moved fwd? I assume it has Ronstan jib hardward, with tracks about a foot long or so? if you measure the length of the boom I can tell you for sure. jerry ________________________________ From: montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com> on behalf of bill.bowen--- via montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, October 25, 2020 4:51 PM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: M12 Hull Plate Thank You Mike Z - I just received a kind email from Jerry Montgomery confirming, yes this should be Hull No. 1. Bill: Harry at EPSailmakers has made sails for the M12. Get in touch with him about getting a jib for your boat - epsails.com Ullman Sails has also made M12 jibs. We usually used lappers for the 12, instead of a working jib. jerry ________________________________ From: montgomery_boats <montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com> on behalf of Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2020 1:04 PM To: bill.bowen@premierhotel.com <bill.bowen@premierhotel.com>; For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: M12 Hull #1 headsail Bill: Harry at EPSailmakers has made sails for the M12.
