To the folks in texas that repied. All I wanted was to find Sean to see his 23 while I am there this Sat. Off the Monty list: I ride a motorcycle and I'm a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Our function is to go to funerals of fallen Iraq soldiers and shield the family of the soldier from the war protesters that have started showing up at veteran funerals of late. No action is taken. We just present ourselves in a line so the procession can't see the protesters. The funeral this Sat is for the first soldier from lake Havasu to die. Riders are coming from Southern California and all over Az for this. Many are staying the night at high rates because the Motorcycle Laughlin River Run is also this weekend . All the fuel, food and motels are on the expense of the riders as volunteers. We state no politcal views, it's just done out of respect for a fallen veteran. Sandy in Mesa, Az.

Sandy- Good on you! You guys have expenses; if you have a kitty send me the name of the appropriate person and I'll send you a contribution. How can anyone have the insensivity (and warped mind?) to protest at a funeral of someone defending our country? This isn't Sunday, so I'll spare the Bible lesson, not that I know what I'm talking about anyway.....but.....as I understand it, those protesters are a few family members.....the entire congregation really, of a whacked out Pastor from Kansas. Friendly Missouri/Kansas rivalries aside, whacked out even by Kansas standards. I've heard the protests of this small but vocal group, originate from warnings given in Deuteronomy about the problems that will fall upon a people who disobey the commandments and ordinances brought down by Moses. In short...we are not strictly following the 10 commandments, so we "are being defeated before our enemies". God is sending our soldiers home dead because we, as a nation, have strayed. The one I've heard of most often is the part about "lying down with another man". But to strictly follow all the commandments, we would have to still be putting to death a bunch of sinners for such things as "dishonoring our parents". I don't think they are advocating that, so it seems to me they are being a bit selective in what they believe and practice. In a lot of ways, they are as whacked out as the bunch on the other side we are fighting. Seems like all the good that should come from religion somehow gets short circuited into a lot of problems. But this being the US, they get to do their little protest. But that doesn't mean they get to be heard. Guys like Sandy are seeing to that. As the parent of an active duty Marine.....albeit one who has spent his entire tour of duty out of harm's way.....I fully support what Sandy and those folks are doing. I've heard that in some cases, when they rev those bikes to drown out the protestors, to the point where nobody can hear anything, some of the family members have smiled. Strange times we are living in. End of sermon. Howard On Apr 26, 2006, at 10:59 PM, jerry wrote:
