Monty owners! For years I have struggled with anchor storage on my M-17. I am considering a bow pulpit bracket but find 2 different types available: one type is a two piece arrgt. that hangs the anchor by the rod on the end of the flukes the other is a single piece that holds the flats at the bottom of the anchor. Your Opinions and experiences would be helpful. Thanks Arnold Sharpe M-17 "Little Breeze"....in the water for the season in Portland, Oregon.
Arnold, I have not mounted an anchor on the bow yet. I keep it in a basket at the aft end of the cockpit with the rode tied off to a stern cleat. I can drop it over and then walk it forward as necessary. That is not ideal either but I don't want to leave the cockpit until the hook is on the bottom. If you mount the anchor on the bow pulpit, what do you plan to do with the rode? Regards, Bill Wickett M17 Makin' Time Glad you are in the water. We are still tarped over from the winter, house projects have to finished up and the weather is nice here in Ontario. On Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 2:14 PM, Arnold Sharpe <afsharpe@mac.com> wrote:

Joe, The chain locker was installed by the previous owner. It is about 1ft aft of the bow and holds at least 120ft of 3/8 nylon rode with 24ft of 1/4" chain with ease. There is an eye glassed in at the bottom for the bitter end. If you wish, I'll take a photo and send it along. I have never noticed any problems carrying the weight of the anchor and rode so far forward in such a small boat as some have suggested may be a problem. One of my anchors is a Manson Supreme, a 10-pounder, and it has become my favorite. I think it's easier to handle than my Danforth, stows easily with rode in a heavy net bag, and--most importantly--has held well (mainly on sand bottoms around the Apostle Islands thus far). Pulling it out of the bottom has been easy so far too. Gordon M-17 "Sapphire" Milwaukee On Apr 16, 2010, at 4:50 PM, Joe Murphy wrote:

I haven't used one, but everyone I've come across with one seems to think they are really great, with more holding power per lb than a Bruce.
