M17 centerboard stop pin question
I'm in the middle of restoring a neglected M17. Where is the centerboard stop pin, and it it's function to stop the board from being lowered too far, or raised too far?
The CB stop pin is a couple of inches from the bottom of the keel, near the aft enmd of theslot. Initiallyu, we used a 3/8 flat head machine screw, then switched to a 3/8 pin, thewn eventjually to a 1/12" pin. We used stainess 1/2" rod for then rudder rods, then switched to bronze The stainless rods slowly galled and got sticky, where bronze, with the stainless pintles, got slicker with use and eventually were like snot on a doorknob. Eventually, we got smart enough to use leftover 1/2" rod for the CB pins. We use 1/2" bronze on the Sage 17, if that tells you anything. -----Original Message----- From: claritysailingadventures--- via montgomery_boats Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 11:17 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: M_Boats: M17 centerboard stop pin question I'm in the middle of restoring a neglected M17. Remember to run the new pin through a section of reinforced rubber fuel line when you thread the bolt from one side to the other in the CB truck. That rubber on the pin will greatly cushion the cb when it comes down and makes contact with the pin. The rubber will absorb the shock. Fair winds.
