It's a great boat! Hey Doug, let us know what your plans are? salngail
Hi Sal, Planning on moving out of the hot Phoenix area in a couple of years. So I sold my kayaks, sold the Sandpiper 565. I will keep my 8 ft Sherpa, balance lug rig, for rowing exercise and some beach cruising. If I get another boat my current thoughts are towards a good rowing sailboat with beach cruising capability (light weight to haul up on the beach), and minimal time to launch. Candidates are Gig harbor boats 15 ft Maine lobster boat, John Welsford Walkabout, and B&B boat works 15 ft Bay River Skiff. I am in no hurry so will not take any action for at least a year or so. Wooden epoxy boats do not fare well in the direct sun of the desert so good storage would be an issue until I move. By the way Sal, You had recommended a personal improvement book last year and I lost the name. If you remember it could you send it along? Thanks Doug On Sat, Mar 25, 2017 at 9:02 PM, sal glesser via montgomery_boats < montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Interesting choices to ponder...I've come across the Bay River Skiff, hadn't seen the other two. The tent custom designed for it is nice on the Walkabout. The sleeping down the center bottom reminds me of the SCAMP (which has a keelboat feel for sure, but is not much of a rower...!). You might also want to consider the CLC Skerry, a 15 ft. sail/row camp cruiser with various rig options (I'd go with the balanced lug rig). Or their Northeaster Dory (17 ft.). I rowed their demo Skerry at the PT Wooden boat fest in 2015 and it was nice (unfortunately they weren't doing sailing demos due to past issues with unskilled sailors...!). I did get to sail a SCAMP, which has a balanced lug rig - super easy to handle, and, very strange to have part of the main in front of the mast with no spar(s) on the leading edge! I kept waiting for it to curl or wrinkle or flutter or something, but it didn't... cheers, John S. On 03/26/2017 02:48 PM, Douglas Kelch wrote:

John, I had forgotten about the Skerry. I sailed one at the East Coast wooden boat show at St. Michaels. Light winds but sailed well. The have a Beta version called the Skerry Raid - beamier with decks for rougher water. I could be a good choice. I do like the Scamp but I would like something that rows better. My 8 ft Sherpa is a balance lug and sails quite well. Thanks Doug On Sun, Mar 26, 2017 at 8:02 PM, John Schinnerer <john@eco-living.net> wrote:
