has any one built a stern rail (to match the bow pulpit ) that could double as a stern boom crutch and support for mast when lowered
I know some M17's have a very high stern rail (I'm sure to clear the rudder in it's "up" position) that could be used as mast-support. My boom wouldn't reach a stern-rail, so one wouldn't work as a boom-crutch for me . . . You could probably install a boom-gallows that would serve both functions and wouldn't be too intrusive . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: "MC Carpenter" <southisland2@earthlink.net> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 04, 2003 12:13 AM Subject: stern rail that doubles as boom crutch has any one built a stern rail (to match the bow pulpit ) that could double as a stern boom crutch and support for mast when lowered
The stern rail that Busca had on her was built of 7/8" OD tubing and there was quite a span between the supports....I would not trust it to support any appreciable weight without some reinforcing. On a 17, I think the stern rail would be awfully low and too far aft to use as a boom gallows anyway. Tod
