Hello, I wonder if it's advisable to tie the boat to the trailer when towing long distances. If so , what is the best way. It seems that tie down straps would chaff the gel coat.

Jerry, I run my tie down straps (seat belt width) through 1-1/2" I.D. x 3/8" wall Neoprene pipe insulation. This size allows for the strap to remain flat within the insulation (insulation flattens when tightened). The straps run from trailer over the cockpit combings, and back down to the trailer. The tightening buckle is between the two combings. I also attach two safety lines at the bow. One from the stem fitting to the winch post, and the other from stem fitting down to trailer. The bow is entirely captive this way, and cannot bounce or slide back. Haven't had any gel coat damage in more than 7000 miles using this system. Scott, M15#478 'bebe'
