A challenge goes out to all Potter sailors near and far - come have some fun. In 2013 we had the second largest fleet with 12 boats racing! Let's show them what a LARGE fleet of SMALL boats looks like! Two or Three days of winter racing in the 'usually' warm Arizona desert! Friday racing is optional if you need the travel time. Camping or resorts - the choice of accommodations is up to you. Slips are available and group dining is on tap. Dinners/Breakfasts hosted by the AYC and LPSC are available or on your own - We do Wild Horse West as Friday Dinner as a tradition. (great chili size, beer, jukebox and pool table) Our goal is to educate and develop sailing skills via a racing and lecture format - Guest Speakers are jumping on the wagon - a full list to come shortly. If you have a personality in mind - contact me - I will see what I can do. Contact Gary O. at _gilasailr@aol.com_ (mailto:gilasailr@aol.com) for any questions you may have about facilities/Lodging/Entries etc. The Event web page will be updated shortly. See you at Lake Pleasant January 17-19, 2014 PS - Dry storage facilities are available if you will be sailing later in February at Lake Havasu. I have a group of pictures and permission to post from the 2013 event - check it out at the 'Soon to Be Up Web Page!'
Drat!!! I can't come. Kids are in school that week. I'd love to come and try my luck against Paintboy. Here's a video of my new boat, that started life as a Potter. As some of you know, Jim Antrim and I conspired to put a retractable bulb keel, taller 7/8th new rig on her..... and a retractable bow sprit so we can fly up to 300 SF of asymm. Here's a video of her flying the Code Zero. We're doing 6.8 knots through the water in 6-8 kts of wind on a deep reach. We're moving so fast that the apparent wind is so far forward that we're trimmed for close reaching. http://youtu.be/2USDP3HJbns Sorry, boyz and girlz, couldn't help bragging on my new boat.... I've been working on it for 8 months now!!!! Cheers! Judy B Potter-Yachter and lover of Wrinkle boats. Thanks, Tyler. I'm still working on dialing her in and learning to sail her. There's a lot that went into this project. Very interesting photos... I hope it inspires others to add a keel like that to their non-race boats. It would be very cool to see someone modify the keel trunk to add a bulb keel to a swing keel boat such as a Catalina 22. As Lyle Hess said, "since a cruising boat isn't bound by any racing rules- there's no reason why it can't be fast." I'm moving up to the bay area soon and hoping to meet/get involved with the Potter Yachters up there... and I'm also looking to buy a trailerable boat although I'll probably buy an M15.
