I did a lot of research myself ....years actually.....and never found anything in that size range that was even close to the Mboats. If someone knew of something better I would be curious as well. Yes, I think a person could have a custom designed and built boat that would be 'better' and more specific to the owner, but as for a production design I think Lyle and Jerry pretty well nailed the 15-17 range. I entertained the thought of building what I wanted prior to buying the 17. Even down to initial consultation with a favourite designer. But in the end, the M17 was so close to what I had in mind it was silly to consider. I have built, modified and repaired boats for a large part of my life, so building one is not a big stretch. And having sailing the pants of my 17 for two seasons now I can say I am waaaay in love with this boat. The design performance and construction level easily exceeded the high expectations that I had before finding #367.
