Hi All: Does Anyone have any experience with an RK20, good, bad or otherwise? This is another Lyle Hess design. There's one for sale here (it was my #2 choice after my Monty) and I've got a friend with a SERIOUS sailing jones but very little money, and I'm steering him towards it. I think it's in bad shape, no trailer, but I think we can fix it. Best BG
Brian, You probably found this on the internet, but if not, here is a quote from the Ensenada owner's site: The Ensenada 20 was manufactured from 1972-1981 by Coastal Recreation Inc. in Costa Mesa, Ca. and was also built under the RK-20 name by their subsidiary RK Industries in Strasburg Virginia. There were many interior, rig, keel trunk, rudder, and interior design changes over the years, making almost every E20 on the water today a "One-Of-A-Kind". Steve: I bought a new Ensenada 20 in 1973. It had a flush deck with a good cabin design that made a good camper out of it, but the swing keel pivot bolt was inside the cabin which meant a hard knock on the keel might cause a serious leak and sinking. The boat didn't point terribly well in my experience and had fairly round chines, which meant that it healed over quickly until it reached about 20 degrees, which was it's design optimum hell, no, heel angle (Freudian slip there). So it gave a feeling of uncertainty until you got to 20 degrees. --Gary Hyde Pullman, WA gmhyde1@mac.com M17 #637 'Hydeaway 2' "...There's nothing quite like messing about in boats..." If you ask on the Trailer Sailor Board, http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/trailersailor/index.cgi , there is at least one person with an RK and some folks with Ensenadas. I really like the look of the RK's, especially the hull (did Lyle Hess EVER design a bad hull??) and it would be on my short list if I wanted something a bit larger than my M17.
