That would work. We install the cap that has a swivel strap with a hole in the end. It could be used to attach to the backstay, however we also install a topping lift for holding the boom as well. I prefer a topping lift. Bob MC Carpenter wrote:

, but there is a hole in the end of the boom cap, is this designed for a boom support to hold to the backstay, there is nothing in the hole right now and it does not look like there ever was..
