In a few weeks we're taking our Montgomery 15 to the Delta and to San Francisco Bay for a couple of overnight outings. I grew up sailing out of Berkeley, and have sailed our Montgomery out of Berkeley before. Sailing out the Oakland Estuary sounds like a fun change. The thing is I am not familiar with the ramps in the Oakland Estuary nor their advantages and disadvantages, especially when planning to park a vehicle and trailer overnight. Maybe the parking at some ramps gets full sometimes too. Would anyone familiar with ramps in the Oakland Estuary be so kind as to share their thoughts? Thanks! Hi David, There are two ramps on the estuary - one on the island side at Grand Street, right between the Alameda Marina and the Grand Street Marina. It's a good ramp. and no launch fee. Free parking is available there, but it can be crowded. Small fishermen launch there, but usually return by mid morning. There's no security in the parking lot. I'd leave a trailer and car there overnight, but not for a week and not with valuables in sight. If you want slightly more secure parking for your vehicle and trailer, call Alameda Marina and pay them $5 or $10 per night to park in the gated parking at marina. However, keep in mind that it's open during the day and open to the water, so you still need to be careful. The second choice is on the Oakland side of the estuary at Aquatic Park next to Jack Londen Square. I haven't launched there in a while. I don't recommend leaving your vehicle there overnight. It's a rough neighborhood. Have fun, JudyModified Potter 19 and Catalina 27. I understand the Oakland Grand Street public ramp off Clement is good, however I have not yet used it, hence I did not reply earlier. I have looked at it and it looks good. http://alamedaca.gov/recreation/grand-street-boat-ramp Tyler H. Seranita M17 #232 Palo Alto, CA
