I prefer loose footed mainsails. I find them easier to shape. t t _/\_ On Thu, Feb 13, 2014 at 3:19 PM, George R. Iemmolo <griemmolo2@gmail.com>wrote:

Does a loose footed main have to be cut differently from one with lugs or a boltrope or can the latter just be left loose footed. Why is a loosefooted main easier to shape? Which lines affect it, just the outhaul and downhaul? On Thu, Feb 13, 2014 at 5:36 PM, Tom Smith <openboatt@gmail.com> wrote:

For racing, I like a loosefooted main for the reasons already expressed, but for cruising it's a toss-up; when I put the boat to bed I like to wind the sail up on the boom and then throw it below, and for flaking the sail out on the boom when at anchor, a regular setup is a little easier. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "George R. Hi George, I have no experience with a loose footed main so I could not add anything to the discussion but your question came through loud and clear. Tom B On Thu, Feb 13, 2014 at 5:19 PM, George R. Iemmolo <griemmolo2@gmail.com>wrote:

Don't over-think these sail controls. I adhere to the Gary O school of outhaul: On or Off. t t _/\_ On Fri, Feb 14, 2014 at 3:01 PM, Thomas Buzzi <thomaspbuzzi@gmail.com>wrote:
