filling the cabin with the main & boom
Hi Skip: I try to rig up a topping lift when I sail. It holds up the boom when the main is lowered. The first few times I rigged, I forgot to tie it on. Then I would have to lower the boom to tie it on, and then raise the boom a second time. I'm getting better about remembering things. Or maybe it's getting worse, I can't remember. When installing a topping lift on an M-15, it appears to me that the rope which extends from the top of the mast to the end of the boom would impede or rub against the trailing edge of the sail. Does this cause any problems (eventual damage to the sail) or is it a non-issue? Just be sure you leave the topping lift loose. It'll just either fall away from the sail to lee, or conform to the sail's shape to windward. t
