Re: M_Boats: Boats: milk crates
Hi Rick, I get the anchor rode, the chain and my anchor in the crate. By the Way, there is a new chain of stores called "The Container Store" - I visited one in Dallas, and this would be a good place to go looking for storage solutions on an M15/17. The have all sorts, shapes and sizes of containers. My lunch hook is the smallest Bruce copy that I got at West Marine. It fits nicely into that crate. I also have an aluminum Danforth (originally built for seaplanes ....weight!) that lives in the port sail locker. My serious anchor - the small Fortress - is up forward together with chain and rode. The two port locker anchors are ready to go instantly. With them grabbing the bottom, I then have ample time to leisurely go forward and get out the serious anchor, if ever needed. Rick, a small rectangular waste paper basket can work but drill some holes for water drainage. Connie
I don't know how much rode everyone is carrying, but I carry a 9 pound Delta and about the same weight Fortress, and each has a rode of 20' of 1/4" chain and 150' of 3/8" nylon and it all goes in a small crate like container that is about half the size of a regular milk crate. I used to carry a 3rd anchor....a 15 pound navy type, with chain and rode, and after two or three years of never having used anything but the Delta (in the 6 years of my stewardship, the Fortress has never been wet), I looked at the extra weight of a 3rd anchor and took it out. I finally realized these are not 10 ton boats anchored in an area exposed to 200 miles of fetch from the North Sea. And while I've thought about it, I don't carry a lunch hook either. On a bigger boat, a 9 pound delta is a lunch hook. Howard M17, #278 Audasea
