Likewise, I leave mine attached. Sure as the world, if I took it off I'd forget I'd done it and then merrily lower the main, allowing the boom to smack the gelcoat. Leave attached and loose in heavier air but in light air tension to give a fuller sail and of course to keep the boom out of the cockpit when reefing or dropping the sail. Dick, NS26 Swoose
