Re: M_Boats: loose footed mainsail
I've seen loose footed mains and sails with a shelf in the foot. I like the shelf better. When you want to flatten the sail in higher winds, you just tighten the outhaul. With the shelf, the wind is directed back, but the loose foot lets some of the wind drop out the bottom of the sail.
I have used a loose foot on my 22' pearson, I just thought it was inefficient. Later I replaced it w/ a brand new sail and I had the bolt rope, what a difference. But that probably had a lot to do with the sail being new. gil -----Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces+gilbert=mindgame.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces+gilbert=mindgame.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Sandyal55@aol.com Sent: Saturday, September 17, 2005 7:29 PM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: loose footed mainsail I've seen loose footed mains and sails with a shelf in the foot.
