Does anyone on the list have experience with GPS mapping software. I bought a Lowrance GPS/Sonar unit, and am curious if anyone knows the tricks that would be most beneficial for creating maps/routes/waypoints/etc.. Answer offline if this is too off topic. Regards, Steve
I used a Garmin 45 when I had my M23 and would download waypoints/routes from Navmaster III charting software under Win3.1. This software is now obsolete but check with Peter Jacob's GPS website for the latest software. I still use Navmaster III on my Nonsuch 26 but it warns me that is non-2000 compliant. Steve, I have downloaded OziExplorer on my laptop and paid the shareware fee (about $75, i think), and it has worked extremely well for me. It allows you to digitize in existing charts, or get the electronic charts (i have some of each), create and edit waypoints and routes, and move them back and forth between your GPS. It also does the real-time position plotting, which is great fun -- last summer, I left La Conner at 2:00 a.m. and navigated out of the channel to the south, watching my position on the laptop (and carefully watching markers and shoreline as well). It's way cool ;). Its a lot of software for the money -- www.oziexplorer.com Loyd Myers M-17 334 "Whippersnap" Steve & Diana Parsons wrote:
