Re: M_Boats: Whisker pole for M-17
Hi Rick, I have a 150 genoa on Grace and use a Forespar adjustable pole I got a West Marine. It is not the smallest one they offer I think the next one up. Not sure that was needed but it was a bit thicker and seemed stronger. I will re-post from home if I can find the receipt that shows the model number. Has anyone used a whisker pole on an M-17 with a 135% genoa? If so, what length seems to work best?
Thanks,

All, I am feel fortunate to have purchased an M-10 in absolutely pristine condition that had been formerly on an inland lake in Wisconsin. It sails like a dream and I am pleased it reminds me so much of the Zuma I had a while back as far as being quick and responsive. The center board and rudder have been replaced and to my feel the rudder did not have the amount of control I was expecting. I could not get a feel for what the original dimensions might have been from the photos on the mboats photo site. I looked at Kieth Harris' refit of the M-12 and noticed that the rudder looks like a scaled version of the M-17. Would it be appropriate to try this approach for the M-10 as well? I appreciate any thoughts. Robbin M-10 Tonka Too M-17 Miss Take

I'm guessing that the original 10 rudder was about 16" deep. If there is no grounding problem, a couple of inches more would be good. jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Kaiser" <whkaiser@gmail.com> To: "For and about Montgomery Sailboats" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 9:27 PM Subject: Re: M_Boats: M-10 rudder

Thanks Jerry, seems that I am a few inches short of a full rudder (ha ha) as mine is only about 13" below the bottom of the hull. It sure felt like I did not have the kind of control surface I expected. Appreciate the inputs from you and Bill. I will work on a deeper rudder. Robbin jerry wrote:
