RE: M_Boats: EBAY - Montgomery 10 for sale
I have never seen or heard of the Montgomery 12, I just saw the photos of the one sold on dBay....what a nice looking little daysailer. Looks like someone got a real steal. Does anyone know how many of these were made and where they are today? Hmmm. Maybe I need to add another sailboat to my wish list....A main AND a jib on a twelve footer....I like that. --------Larry (wannabe M-15 owner) H. -----Original Message----- From: Wcpritchett@aol.com [mailto:Wcpritchett@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, April 10, 2004 5:18 AM To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: M_Boats: EBAY - Montgomery 10 for sale I've never seen an M12 but it doesn't look like my M10. An M10 is a bit small to have a jib to me. Anywhere near $500 for either is a steal. I paid around $800 for my M10 in the mid 70s and was thankful to get it. M10s were way hard to find on the East coast back then. I still have it and plan on keeping it until I hit the grave. My M10 has a free standing gunter rig (mainsail only) and a daggerboard. The mast is mounted through a teakwood support up near the bow. Seating is benches on each side and one seat joining the two in front of the daggerboard well. I can't find my pics but will post them on the M site someday. Bill P. _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
Yes, I much prefer a sloop rig over cat rig, even singlehanding. My first boat, an 8' pram started out life as a cat rig with a pretty heavy weather helm so it wasn't long before I added a jib (on a short bowsprit), much improving my satisfaction with the boat. I also owned a JY9 for a year or two and wished it had a jib... Another nice thing is a centerboard instead of a daggerboard! Haven't ever tried a leeboard yet though but I suspect that would be nicer than a daggerboard too. So many boats, so little time to savor them all....
