Tom, I just finished refinishing the centerboard. I can hear it clunk when it bottoms out. I did really sand and grind the board to get all of the rust off of it before I faired with epoxy and gave it a good coat of bottom paint. Maybe the slightly narrower width allows more water to come up around the board then act as a pump as the boat rises and falls in the water. Thanks for the idea.
