Fwd: [NHH members] Fwd: A Nice "Little Breeze" - M-15 for sale in Hawai'i
Hi all, FYI, M-15 "Little Breeze" is for sale, see below. It's on Hawai'i Island. The seller, Mauricio, is a member of Na Hoa Holomoku (the sailing club in Hilo). His e-mail is below in the forwarded message. So, you'd either have to move to Hawai'i to sail her...or, ship her back. Or sail her back I suppose. Or, you could buy her and then donate her to the sailing club... :-) cheers, John S. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [NHH members] Fwd: A Nice "Little Breeze" Date: Tue, 12 May 2015 14:51:05 -1000 CC: Mau Barbis <mauriciobarbis@hotmail.com> Aloha Members, This message from Mauricio Barbis..... Aloha Ron, Attached are the pictures of the "Little Breeze". She is a famous Montgomery 15 sailboat that a man named Mike Mann sailed from Newport Beach to Oahu (see link at http://www.msog.org/yarns/hawaii15.cfm). We pull her all around Big Island to go sailing where good sailing conditions are enjoyable. She doesn't need permanent/temporary mooring, insurance fees, or Official Boating Safety Education Course. No need to worries with hurricanes or tsunamis as well. Little Breeze includes: Registered trailer in top condition. Honda 5 hp 4 stroke like new. All sails are in good shape (mains, genoas, jibs, spinnaker, etc). Navigation lights. Anchor with chain and rope. Fenders Compass. Life jackets. Total prize is $ 7,500.00 Call Mauricio at (808) 747-7060 --
Interesting that it still has the running backstays installed. I wonder how much hassle vs benefit they offer. Does anyone know if it has modifications to the cabin hatch or drop boards to keep out water in heavy seas? I talked to a guy that sailed an M15 from San Francisco to LA and he said it was shipping a lot of water into the cabin between the sliding hatch and the deck. I like this watertight cabin on Strawanza (attached) but I think it would make the cabin awkward to use for a tall person. Tyler

If you read some of the write-ups by the guy who sailed it to Hawai'i, he does mention water coming in under the sliding hatch (between hatch and deck) when taking water over the bow. So I think it probably doesn't have any mods there. Nothing attached to your mail to look at...? cheers, John S. On 05/15/2015 09:46 AM, Tyler Backman wrote:

the running backstays on that M15 were added to provide more support to the standing rig as she was running in the tradewinds. the M15 & M17 don't have sea hoods (one of many reasons whey the are not blue water 'rated' boats).
watertight cabin on Strawanza
the hatch on Strawanza is a good solution to assure you have 'flotation' in the form of a dry cabin ... though i've always wondered in the deck structure was modified to assure there was enough strength to support the hatch? just putting a watertight hatch on standard layup (1/8") could result in the hatch frame being ripped out of the bulkhead if the boat is pooped/rolled. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Fri, May 15, 2015 at 12:02 PM, John Schinnerer <john@eco-living.net> wrote:

Just some 'bench sailing' here- Any sheer force on the hatch while a boat is turned turtle would come from the difference in speed between the boat and the water. I doubt this would be much on a boat that only weighs 1400lbs and has it's rig already submerged. The biggest risk would be ripping off a chainplate at the moment the sails submerge. The rig strength to displacement ratio of an M15/M17 is far greater than on large bluewater boats. Tyler

What I said here is wrong- I forgot the enormous difference in speed between the tip of a breaking wave and the water underneath it. Tyler

Tyler. How large is the picture your are trying to attach? not sure exactly, but less that 100K is best as i believe a file much larger will be removed by the listproc software. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Fri, May 15, 2015 at 12:58 PM, Tyler Backman <casioqv@usermail.com> wrote:
