Lake Coeur D'Alene Recommendations
Hello, I would like to bring my M23 to lake Coeur D'Alene in early August. She is too big to put back on the trailer each day so I would like to find temporary mooring for about 9 days. Does anyone know a good place for this? It looks like Silver Beach Marina is the best choice. I would have to launch near the Hagadone marine group and sail to Silver Beach. I noticed there is a sailing marina run by the Panhandle Yacht Club. Is anyone a member that would be willing to offer information? Is there a good place to anchor? Any general information about sailing and launching on the lake would be helpful. Thanks for the help! Gerry Wyatt
You might consider the south end of the lake. It’s less crowded. Lake Chatcollet adjoins and has Rocky Point marina among other launch areas. Sent from my iPad Gary Hyde ~~~(\~~~ Jeg Er Nok (I am enough), or, as Popeye would say: “I yam what I yam and that’s all that I yam.”

Can you say a little about why Pend Oreille is better sailing than Couer D'Alene? I'd like to get up there one of these days... thanks, John On 6/3/19 7:49 AM, Peter Kunst wrote:

Gerald, I live in Coeur d'Alene and cast my vote also for sailing Lake Pend Oreille as the preferred option. There are two marinas on the south end of Pend Oreille which offer visitor moorage. You can launch and park your rig at Farragut State Park ($10/night) and there are two nice public overnight dock/anchor options (free) within an easy days sail. Having paid for a seasonal boatslip at both lakes over several seasons and having sailed my M-15 on each lake for several seasons, I vote for Lake Couer D'Alene over Pend O'Reille. John, No U.S. Navy submarine areas to sail clear of on Lake Couer D'Alene, but there are on Lake Pend O'Reille. More steady winds winds with fewer gusts on Lake Couer D'Alene. Generally what I consider to be more small sailboat (M-15) friendly than Lake Pend O'Reille. Hi John, I have been sailing in Couer D'Alene (Heyburn St Park launch, overnight at Mowry park, ice-cream at Harrison) and Pend O'Reille (out of Farragut St Park, and all the way north to Trestle Creek, but the little hidden dock at the mouth of the Clark Fork is a must visit) a number of times over the last couple of years. Both are great, clearly the only course of action is to do more sailing and visit both!! Sam M15 272 On Tue, Jun 4, 2019 at 1:51 PM Steve Trapp <stevetrapp@q.com> wrote:

There is a M-16 catboat parked on the trailer with California registration at the Swantown marina on South Puget Sound. This is only the 2nd M-16 catboat I have seen. Looked around for the owner but did not see anybody near the boat with whom to talk. Does any other M-boater know much about the M-16 catboat, other than it looks like an M-15 but is a foot longer with a different position for the mast? Steve M-15 M-335

Wise to wait for the tide from that boat launch. Saw two boats aground at low tide in the past weekend, and mind the channel markers until you get out aways. There is a M-16 catboat parked on the trailer with California registration at the Swantown marina on South Puget Sound. This is only the 2nd M-16 catboat I have seen. Does any other M-boater know much about the M-16 catboat, other than it looks like an M-15 but is a foot longer with a different position for the mast? Steve M-15 M-335

Bob, Saw your boat tied to the A dock and another M-15 tied to A dock also. Notice both are designated "Six" What is the significance of Six? Also noticed Swantown Marina is getting reading for many boats for the Salish 100? When does the Salish 100 begin? Thanx, Steve M-15 # 335

Will you be meeting other Salish 100 participants at the Swantown launch in Olympia? Want to borrow a local chart? Tidebooks are free in the marina office.
