My M17 is now up on blocks—still on the trailer, with axle and roller crossmember removed and the tail of the keel cribbed on the rear crossmember—and the centerboard is out! It came out smooth and easy and has only surface corrosion. I’m waiting for my order of epoxy and miscellaneous supplies to arrive.

Cool pics! Looks like it went way easier than you thought originally? I hear ya on the pics thing. It's unfortunate but this platform doesn't really support what everyone wants. I worry that pics will disappear over time. And it'd be nice to have "sticky" topics like this one that comes up over and over. Anyway, glad it's going well! My switch 9anel amd power monitor arrived today, I'm flying home shortly and will be having at it! Jazz On Feb 17, 2016 9:12 AM, "David Rifkind" <drifkind@acm.org> wrote:

I see you have your M17 on an EZ Loader trailer. Is that a custom trailer, or one of their stock adjustable trailers?
This is the trailer the original owner bought with the boat 30 years ago. I can’t tell you more as boat and trailer have been sitting idle for ten years and I’m just trying to get them working again.

If the photos (http://adobe.ly/1oorikz) don’t explain enough I can tell you more. The procedure only worked because this trailer has a frame member in just the right place. I don’t think it was designed for that, I just got lucky.
Hi David, I see one of your rollers is cracked. I am sure you have too. My first boat trailer for a 21 foot Lugar had roller arms like that as well as the keel rollers. It was a very nice setup and followed the hull perfectly. All the rollers distribute the load evenly among themselves, a very nice setup. Only problem with that though is when one roller goes, its metal axle bears directly on the hull. Good luck. That would be ugly. I’m hoping to wait till the boat is out of the trailer to replace those. The keel rollers remain elusive too. (They’re different from modern ones.) I’m still waiting for my epoxy, but in the meantime the plexiglass showed up to replace the port deadlights, so I got the blank for one of those cut out today.
David, If your keep rollers are on adjustable brackets you can adapt other rollers to fit. Worst case you can cut off the existing roller brackets and install new ones with new rollers with regular trailer "u" bolts. David, The pictures are great. Thanks for sharing them and good-news that your centerboard, trunk, and everything else, looks to be in great shape. Hope those rollers are easy to find and replace. Randy M17 #410 On Wed, Feb 17, 2016 at 9:08 AM, David Rifkind <drifkind@acm.org> wrote:

You’ve been peeking in the back of the book, haven’t you? Because that seems to be the question. I haven’t talked to EZ Loader yet, but can’t find keel rollers like those anywhere else.

David, you are lucky to be in a state that appears very dry. Should be an easy clean up on the keel / blade. Have fun with the M17. David, nice work. Glad everything seems to be in decent shape, no expen$ive surprises. I am still researching trailer options. I see you have your M17 on an EZ Loader trailer. Is that a custom trailer, or one of their stock adjustable trailers? And, how do you like the roller rig compared with bunks (if you ever had bunks)? Pros and cons? Anyone else who's had rollers vs. bunks feel free to chime in. thanks, John S. On 02/17/2016 09:08 AM, David Rifkind wrote:

John, I have had both. Provided there are enough rollers to carry the loads involved you can't beat them for easy launch and retrieve. My recently old M17 trailer had rollers on the keel and bunks on the sides. The rollers, alleviating some of the sliding friction helped there too. I plan to add three rollers to the keel bunkboard on my M17 trailer this winter. By leaving the rollers just proud of the rest of the keel bunkboard I won't have to worry about someday having the 150# keel slip down between the rollers and hang up the boat on the trailer.
