RE: montgomery_boats Digest, Vol 34, Issue 13
Re: New M-15 additions Sands, I got a new M-15 (Bella) in December 2004, and love it. Opening ports are great, as are cam cleats instead of clam cleats for the jib sheets. I had a CDI roller furler, then removed it. I find it easier and quicker to step and unstep the mast, and pin and unpin the forestay, without messing with the floppy roller furler foil, and like the simplicity and purity of a halyard raised sail. A colored hull is great (though you'll need to get handy with gelcoat repair), along with contrasting/complementary cockpit cushions. I like consistency, and had Bob install stainless steel horn cleats to match the stainless steel trim on my opening portlights. I also had Bob make my cabin hatch covers and head cover of teak plywood, to match the exterior trim. My genoa is the factory standard 110%. I've added a red 200% asymmetrical spinnaker, now, and it's great fun and beautiful. I like having my two foresails. I removed the jib and mainsail halyard horn cleats from my mast (and filled the holes with grey epoxy), and lead the halyards back to the cockpit to cam cleats. This eliminates two items on my mast that my jib sheets constantly got hung up on on tacks. Fun choices that you have, Sands! Sincerely, John
